When Technology Has Other Ideas.
The day started like any other. Over the previous few weeks, temperatures had been steadily rising, and this day was no exception.
I had been booked to photograph a local dog show, and my main concern was the heat. Spending an entire day in an open field with very little shade, constantly following the sun, meant I came prepared with plenty of water and enough snacks to keep me going. Surprisingly, the weather turned out to be far less of a challenge than I had anticipated.
The event ran smoothly, the dogs and owners were fantastic, and I came away with a great collection of photographs. The real problems began after I got home.
Once the images had finished uploading, I started the usual process of culling, editing, and preparing the gallery.
Normally, this would take a few hours, but my computer seemed determined to take things at its own pace. Tasks that should have been straightforward stretched well into the following day.
As the delays mounted, so did the emails.
To make matters worse, I received a notification from one of my service providers advising of ongoing system issues. Not only was everything running slowly, but every time I thought I had a solution, the situation changed and required a fresh plan.
By the third day, the issue still hadn't been fully resolved. Rather than keep clients waiting any longer, I decided to apologise for the delay and move the gallery to an alternative bulk storage platform, sending out direct access links via email.
Thankfully, my inbox is now much quieter, which I'm taking as a good sign that everyone has been able to access their photos without any further problems.
While the dog show itself couldn't have gone much better, this experience was a reminder that sometimes the biggest challenges aren't the weather, the equipment, or even the workload.
Sometimes, it's the technology behind the scenes that keeps you on your toes.
Thankfully, all appears to be well now, and it's business as usual once again.
